They use their classic multi-layer wood core, a full sheet of titanal along the base of the ski, but the metal along the top of the ski is focused only along the edges of the ski and does not meet underfoot. The new 98 is a way better floater than the 92 that you have--more deep taper and extended rocker in that ski makes a big difference. I demo'd them again this year with the new M5. It's stable, confidence inspiring and damp, but demanding and kind of punishing if you fuck around or get sloppy skiing it. That said, you don't have to be a park-style skier to enjoy it, it's kind of like a Ranger 98 Ti that's more focused on soft snow performance. Anyhow, I demo'd a pair of M5's on a big snow day recently, way too much ski, once things were chopped up, I was getting thrown all over the place and really tiring. We see a lot of teen skiers on these raging around the woods, but theyre also more than acceptable for mellower skiers who just want something easy and playful with good energy for all-mountain cruising. I've skied it here in VT in about a foot and a half of light, dry snow, and it floated great, so unless you're in bottomless, I don't think the slight flotation advantage of the Rustler is worth the sacrifice, especially when it comes to on-trail performance. At 100 mm underfoot, these skis have a decent footprint as well, so if you ever decide to get out of the snow park and ski some real snow, the Blend can get down with that as well.
